About Wellness Checkpoint

Frequently Asked Questions

Below are a list of just some of the questions we are frequently asked. If you don't find an answer you're looking for, please contact us.

How is Privacy Ensured?

Wellness Checkpoint® secures privacy at the individual level while measuring, tracking and reporting global corporate indicators. It can operate in two modes: with confidential identifiers selected by the user or with authenticated identifiers without the need to store other identifying data. Data is encrypted during transmission using SSL certificates. Selection of groups for analysis and reporting is subject to minimum group size.

Can Wellness Checkpoint Track Changes Over Time?

Wellness Checkpoint retains a full history of all assessments for each participant, tracking changes in their risk profile from their first assessment (baseline) though each update.  Change is also tracked on a group level, presenting management with measures of impact at lifestyle, biometric  predictors and pre-disease levels.

What is a Pre-Disease Pool?

Identifying existing risk and working towards mitigation of risk is the underpinning of any wellness program. Getting to a level of understanding before risk becomes more difficult to manage is the key to understanding pre-disease pools and is the mark of an excellent wellness program. Wellness Checkpoint’s powerful, validated risk calculations help us understand disease in the pre-emptive stages so that intervention can be managed before full-blown disease conditions exist.

How Does Wellness Checkpoint Measure & Report Productivity Loss?

Wellness Checkpoint measures productivity loss through presenteeism and absenteeism with financial impact projections based on the average salary of your organization, both on an average individual level and for your entire population. Collection of this data and analysis is based on the Work Limitations Questionnaire (WLQ), developed by Dr. Debra Lerner, MS, PhD, of Tufts Medical Center. The WLQ is a brief, self-administered questionnaire measuring the impact of chronic health problems on job performance and work productivity. The WLQ has been used in projects throughout the world and has become a standard of measurement.

Is Wellness Checkpoint Compliant with Current Privacy Legislation?

Respect for privacy and security of information is a fundamental value of InfoTech Inc. It has been the underpinning of our products and the services we provide to our clients globally. InfoTech and Wellness Checkpoint are compliant with:

  • PIPEDA - Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (Canada)
  • HIPAA - Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (US)
  • Data Protection Act  (UK)
  • European Commission’s Directive on Data Protection (EU)

As we continue to develop new product capabilities and provide new services, respect for privacy will continue to be an underlying principle.

Where is the Wellness Checkpoint Data Stored?

All data collected by Wellness Checkpoint is stored in Canada, a country with privacy protection considered more than adequate by the U.S. and European Union. In fact, Canada is one of only 5 countries outside the EU considered to have an adequate level of protection for exemption from the EU’s prohibition on data transfer outside the EU.

Is Wellness Checkpoint GINA Compliant?

The Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act (GINA), passed by the U.S. Departments of Labour and Health & Human Services, took effect December 7, 2009, restricting the use of questions on family health history in health risk assessments used in association with incentives and benefits eligibility. As a global health risk assessment, Wellness Checkpoint offers GINA compliant options when used for U.S. employee populations where GINA restrictions apply.  When used outside the U.S., or where GINA restrictions do not apply,  the Wellness Checkpoint configuration can be set to include questions on family health history.

Please contact us for a copy of our position paper on the impact of GINA on Wellness Checkpoint, and the configuration options available to ensure Wellness Checkpoint is indeed compliant with GINA. These configuration options are easily made and we will work with you to ensure you are completely comfortable with the options and understand their implications.

Is Wellness Checkpoint for Families?

Many clients of Wellness Checkpoint configure their application to include family members of their employees.  Including family members will often create a broader understanding of wellness, while the powerful configuration options of Wellness Checkpoint ensure meaningful employee-only data is not compromised.

How Much Does Wellness Checkpoint Cost?

The cost of Wellness Checkpoint is dependent upon how we configure your particular application and the size of your participant population. Please contact us for more information regarding cost.
